CARICOM and Cuba are betting on energy cooperation

GUYANA, April 15th, 2016.- The Manager for the Energy Development Program of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr. Devon Gardner, met with the Cuban representative to the organization, Ambassador Julio César González Marchante, at the Embassy of the Island in Georgetown to spur cooperation actions in the energy sector.

At the meeting the next visit to Cuba of a delegation led by Assistant to Secretary General for Trade and Integration of CARICOM, Joseph Cox, was ratified. This delegation will assess, together with Cuban counterparts, the possibility to implement projects that could benefit the members of the organization in sectors such as the production of biogas from organic waste, power cogeneration from agricultural wastes including sugarcane bagasse, the use of wind energy and energy efficiency in buildings.

Dr. Gardner praised the outstanding work of Cuba along decades for regional integration through the training of human resources and solidary collaboration offered to Caribbean peoples, notwithstanding the blockade imposed on the Island. (Cubaminrex/ EmbaCuba Guyana)
