Cuba, December 8, 2014. The also Chairman of the Caribbean Community said it was a brave decision of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago to break in 1972 the diplomatic blockade imposed by Washington. He also called for the immediate lifting of the United States blockade against Cuba, which he described as “senseless.” He also invited U.S. President Barack Obama and the members of the Congress to eliminate this obsolete policy and to leave Cuba develop as any other nation in the world.
 
The strength of the co-operation between the CARICOM and Cuba expresses in multiple ways and fields, the leader went on. Cuba is the only destiny where the 42 Caribbean states are present and that, in the opinion of the Chairman of the Caribbean Community, is a token of respect and admiration.
 
The Prime Minister also expressed that the CARICOM and Cuba should work not only to bolster their ties in regional issues, but that they should also step up their actions in the international arena. “We are peoples with a history of colonialism, and division. Division has made us weak for the benefit of others. Now we are full-grown nations, we live in the same neighborhood and have a lot of things in common. We should put our rivalries aside and promote co-operation instead,” he said.
